SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) – The tension was clear during Thursday night’s city council meeting in Sanger.

It was Mayor Eli Ontiveros’ first meeting since his arrest for domestic violence last month.

He was taken into custody at his home for domestic disturbances on December 22.

Action News was there when he posted bail and left jail the next day.

There was no agenda item regarding his arrest during the meeting.

But during the public comment period, several residents expressed their disapproval of the mayor.

Some have called for his resignation.

“I think it’s time for you … for the betterment of the city whether you’re guilty or not, I really don’t care. The city doesn’t need that hanging over its head. I think the right thing to do is quit and deal with this legal situation whatever the outcome. And then run for office if you feel like it, “said the caller.

There was also a group of residents who expressed their support for the mayor during the meeting.

Ontiveros has denied all allegations of domestic violence.
