Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has responded to criticism over his meager ground in international cricket. Kohli, who has set high standards for himself with his incredible consistency in the past, has failed to score a century in more than two years in international cricket. Kohli last scored a hundred in 2019.
He has since sought to end his century of drought and join Ricky Ponting at No. 2 on the batting list with the most centuries of international cricket. Although he failed to score a hundred, his average also dropped significantly in the longest format.
Kohli has managed just 652 points in his last 14 practice matches, averaging just over 26, which is quite below the Indian skipper’s standards. However, Kohli is not bothered by his thinness and is aware that tough times are part of an athlete’s career.
“This is not the first time. Let’s not stray from the reality, it has happened a few times (lean patch),” Kohli said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the third test between India and South Africa in Cape Town.
“I don’t look at myself from the point of view of the outside world. The standards I have been compared to were set by myself. More than anyone, I’m proud to want to do my best for the team. sport sometimes things don’t turn out the way you want them to but I do realize that I have been involved in some really important times over the past year or so as a batter, ”added the Indian skipper.
Kohli had missed the second test against the Proteas with a back spasm after leading India to a landslide victory in the series opener at Centurion. The Indian skipper has recovered on time and is set to make his return to the lineup for the series decider as India remains one win away from the first Test Series victory in South Africa.

Amid discussions about his poor form, Kohli said he is not someone who looks at the numbers and does not need to prove himself to anyone. The Indian skipper is hoping to regain his form and score a big score in the final test against the Proteas to help India win storyline history on the tour.
“At the end of the day, those moments were pivotal. Sometimes your focal point changes, if you keep looking at yourself in terms of numbers you will never be happy,” Kohli said.
“I am very proud and motivated to be in these times and have nothing to fear. I truly believe that I don’t need to prove myself to anyone. When you are in the position, you are going to be judged. by the outside world, “he added.
