New Delhi:

Several Supreme Court attorneys have claimed to have received threatening appeals from judges in the case over the security breach that left Prime Minister Narendra Modi stranded for 20 minutes on a flight over Punjab last week.

The appeals were reportedly launched by a pro-Khalistan Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) organization. Many lawyers say they received an automated call at 10:40 a.m. on Monday.

NDTV cannot confirm the veracity of calls.

The appellant allegedly claimed that the SFJ group was responsible for the blockade by protesting against farmers on Prime Minister Modi’s route as he traveled by road from Bathinda to Ferozepur on Wednesday. After waiting 20 minutes for the road to clear, the Prime Minister turns around and cancels all his programs.

The appellant reportedly warned that the judges who heard the case “must not help Prime Minister Modi” punish Sikh farmers. They also spoke about the 1984 anti-Sikh riot and accused the Supreme Court of keeping silent about the deaths of Sikh farmers over the past year, in protests against three now-overturned farm laws.

Many lawyers complained about the threatening calls.

Nikhil Jain, the treasurer of a Supreme Court law corps, said he received a call from +447418365564.

Vishnu Shankar Jain, a lawyer for the government of Uttar Pradesh, said he received the calls twice. “Today many Supreme Court lawyers, including myself, received calls from a UK number. The appeal specifically asked Supreme Court justices to refrain from hearing Prime Minister Modi’s cavalcade blockade petition, “Jain told NDTV.

“This issue needs consideration. It is a very serious issue and I think the highest authority should look into it as well,” he said.

Nishant Katneshwarkar, a Supreme Court attorney who once represented the government of Maharashtra, also confirmed receiving the appeal. He said: “In the morning I got two calls from a UK number. Most Supreme Court lawyers have received such appeals.

The Supreme Court today ordered an investigation led by a retired judge into the incident and called on the Center and the government of the Punjab to suspend their investigations for the time being.
