NEW ORLEANS – Anthony Edwards was one of the reasons the Timberwolves came back after losing most of the second half in their 128-125 loss to the Pelicans.
Edwards scored 20 of his 28 in the fourth quarter to lead Wolves’ charge as they tied the scoring on runner D’Angelo Russell with 3.6 seconds left.
But after the game Edwards said he was responsible for Wolves being in the wrong position they were in in the first place.
“I blame myself …” said Edwards. “I just wasn’t playing at all. It would be different if I was shooting. I wasn’t shooting, I wasn’t aggressive, I wasn’t playing games. I wasn’t doing anything. I was just there.”
Edwards didn’t score in the first quarter and had no rebounds. At halftime he had eight points and just two rebounds. He didn’t really start until the fourth and when he left Wolves almost roared all the way except for New Orleans who hit their five three-pointers in the fourth, Brandon’s last. Ingram to win the game.
“I just have to be aggressive from the point,” said Edwards. “I can’t go out here while waiting. There is nothing to wait for. I have to go out and be aggressive, be assertive and be me.”
When asked why he thought he was flat, Edwards replied, “I really can’t give you an answer for that. I just wasn’t there in the first half, I wasn’t there. wasn’t there at all. “
He finished 10 of 21 on floor, including 6 of 12 on three points. It also didn’t have any revenue after the second quarter. But Edwards’ slow start wasn’t the only issue for Wolves. Their defense was a bit slow for most of the night and New Orleans had 28 quick braking points.
Karl-Anthony Towns said Wolves have become too complacent with the recent four-game winning streak.
“We can’t get to four and act like it’s cool and we’re just going to have games,” Towns said. “We won’t be given any games in this league. The Timberwolves haven’t done much in how long? We have no respect.
“Nobody gives us respect. We have to go and earn it every night. You can’t be four, you can’t be five, you can’t be six. We have to be over 10. should see it that way. We should never look to lose games like we lost tonight. “
Edwards took a lot on his shoulders.
“It’s one of those things where I’m like, ‘I’m just going to tell the coach to get me out,’ you know? You have to find a way to get started,” Edwards said. “I think I did, but I think it was too late.”
