Re: If only they would listen, January 6 letter

The writer’s letter accuses unvaccinated people of filling our hospitals with COVID patients. Maybe the author of this letter should try to read the diary a little more in depth because, from what I read in the Ottawa Sun, hospitals admit both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. in a ratio of about 50/50.

Stop blaming the unvaccinated for everything COVID-related. If the vaccines were doing what they’re supposed to do, you wouldn’t need a fourth booster. My dad got his booster the other day and was told to expect a fifth or sixth booster.

Perhaps the writer can explain to us how tens of thousands – if not more – of people who have been vaccinated still receive COVID.

In the United States there are no police state warrants like here in Canada and people do not fall dead on the streets. Omicron symptoms are reported worldwide as a mild cold, but here we are locked in like criminals regardless of vaccinations.

Normally vaccines etc. take years of clinical trials and now a fourth injection is needed because the first three clearly didn’t do the job. The writer of the letter should get off his high horse and stay home if he is so concerned.

COULDN’T BELIEVE IT

Re: Protecting workers by discouraging unionization, column, January 5

I couldn’t believe the Ottawa Sun article saying we should discourage unionization and undertake massive market deregulation and encourage more competition. Wow, I think this professor needs a lecture on the purpose of unions and why they exist.

Yes, sometimes they try to push their limits, but they protect employees from greed and dictators. If we have regulated working hours, weekends, family, mourning and sick days, workplace safety, vacations and harassment-free work environments, it is exactly because of unions.

What Mr. Lau is suggesting is that we go back to the 18th century, when you were the boss’s slave. This lawyer is an argument for communist idealism. The unions have offered the working class a chance to dream and join the middle class.

We have to be careful who the propaganda is put forward by people like Mr. Lau.

HERE IS HOPE IN 2022

In for money. Oh good? My experience has been that you pay for what you get. If you got what you paid for, imagine how many lawyers would change careers and how much extra time would be available for the courts. Imagine if every product lived up to its publicity and every entrepreneur showed up on time and did what they said they would do. The words, “To dream the impossible dream,” come to mind.

Yet even with rising inflation, you don’t have to imagine new higher taxes on carbon, revenues, etc., since our government has promised them for 2022. And that’s a promise that ‘they will hold.

Perhaps, as attributed to Will Rogers, we should be thankful that, “It’s a good thing we don’t get all the government we pay for.” But, by 2022, let’s hope our government gives us at least some of what we pay for, like better health care for all Canadians – no people, no children, no veterans, no seniors left behind. . (And, if they have the time, the truth and transparency would be nice as well.)

To all, a new year full of hope.
