A DStv Premiership club has opened bribery allegations against members of its technical team, including a first-team head coach.

Damning allegations of corruption have surfaced against Thobejane and Lekgau by local soccer coach and mentor Alpheus Thantsha, who claims to have lost in the region of R20,000 allegedly to both coaches, as exclusively revealed in the 1256 edition of Soccer Laduma.
According to Thantsha, Thobejane and Lekgau promised in August that the Limpopo club would sign three of their young players for their DStv Diski Challenge team if they paid the fee. Back when Thobejane was still with Baroka’s reserve team, before his promotion to the first team as head coach in November.
“I spoke to the president, and the way he spoke to me, he doesn’t see anything wrong. I sent him all the evidence and he said I’m lying but he even has text messages from his coaches (that I forwarded to him), confirming that they will reimburse me in January, but he still protects them,” Thansha said.

Contacted for comment, Baroka Chairman Khurishi Mphahlele accused Thantsha of alleged criminality and corruption.
“Let this guy spread all the information he wants to spread. Let me tell you one thing, this guy is corrupt, and he wants to corrupt my whole team. How do we get players to pay to play for the game? team? How do we do that? How do we do that? We bring players here and hundreds and hundreds of kids here, and we’ve never gotten just one of them pays a dime and instead we help them,” the president said.

“He (Thantsha) takes money from the parents of the children and that is his problem. He promises them heaven and earth. He was the one who promised the parents of the children to place the children in Baroka FC. Why should he give money to my staff? I pay my staff. Why does he have to give money to my staff behind my back? He is a sgebenga (criminal) this man. He claimed that the children were from Seshego and I said, “Let’s call the parents to confirm where the children are from. I always do that because when these children are away from their parents, they cause us problems here and when they do that, we don’t know where to report them. The other one is from KZN, but this man said he is from Seshego,” he added.

“Our policy is that for the MDC team, we give preference to the boys from Limpopo. We decided this because their parents are close and if the boys give us problems, we can call their parents to discuss the issues. We can’t call someone from Cape Town to come and discuss the issues of MDC players here. That would take time. Imagine parents having to book flights and make all the arrangements to come here for MDC players who don’t don’t get paid because they’re amateurs. We develop them into professional players and we don’t pay them. How can we make them pay when we don’t pay them? My question is, why doesn’t this guy Didn’t he come to me when the coach asked him for money Why come to me when he wants his money back If those boys weren’t fired he wasn’t going to want his money back money. What was this money used for? Corruption? No! He should have reported the matter earlier. I told him to report the matter to the police,” Mphahlele concluded.
Accused of alleged criminal behavior, Thantsha hit back and said: “What does what he says have to do with his coaches taking bribes? In the end, it is the parents of the players who end up paying the money in these kinds of situations where coaches ask for money for tryouts. At first I used my money to try to get the boys into the club and over time and realizing I couldn’t afford it anymore I went to the parents for help on behalf of the boys . The president tries to protect his coaches.
