Sia reveals she wanted to end her life amid criticism over her film Music

Sia revealed she wanted to end her life when she found herself engulfed by critics over her film Music.

During her recent interview with The New York Times, the Cheap Thrills director said she was suicidal and relapsed and went to rehab when her first film was released as director.

She also shared that Kathy Griffin saved her life.

The 46-year-old faced massive backlash after casting a neurotypical actor, Maddie Zeigler, in the lead role of a non-verbal autistic teenager.

The film was not warmly received by the autism community who criticized the depiction of autism in the film.

The backlash only grew worse when the film landed two Golden Globe nominations in 2021.

Many actors have also opened up to condemn films that harm people. Chloe Hayden also said putting Zeigler in the film saps the abilities of people with autism and makes us look like babies.”

“Second, if your movie is about inclusion, but you don’t make the set inclusive, that completely underplays the whole issue,” the outlet reported.
