A Manassas man is facing multiple charges after police say he went on a robbery spree in North Stafford after leaving a child alone at a Stafford residence.

Sheriff Maj. Shawn Kimmitz said Deputies ER Houde and CC Crossett attended the St. George’s Estates subdivision shortly before 3 a.m. after a resident reported items stolen from his vehicle, including including a knife with an inscription.

Deputies began to scour the area and discovered other victims. A resident gave deputies doorbell camera footage of a suspect trying to get into his car, giving police a description of the suspect which included a distinctive green sweatshirt.

Houde and Crosset then drove to the Sheetz on Garrisonville Road and spotted a man matching the suspect in camera footage exiting the store. Over $2,500 in stolen property was found in his vehicle, including the knife taken from the original caller. Ammunition and a pellet gun were also found in the vehicle.

Kimmitz said during the investigation, deputies learned the suspect left an 8-year-old child alone as he went out to steal. A deputy came to the home to watch the child until the mother could take custody of him.

Scott Anthony Madden, 30, has been charged with tampering with a vehicle, possession of illegal drugs, theft, possession of burglary tools and possession of a weapon by a felon. Kimmitz said other charges are pending.
