At one point, the Bills looked set to upend the Chiefs’ road and be poised to host next week’s AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. Seemingly a moment later, everything was unraveled.

There’s a lot to blame after Buffalo’s defense allowed Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense to score a tying field goal in just 13 seconds, but perhaps no decision was made. ‘closer scrutiny than the Bills’ decision to hit it deep for a touchdown after their spectacular touchdown.

Rather than opting for a firecracker kick, the Bills kicked the ball through the end zone, giving the ball to the Chiefs on their own 25-yard line. Kansas City advanced the ball 44 yards in two plays and 10 seconds to set up Harrison Butker’s 49-yard field goal that proved to be Buffalo’s demise. While a firecracker kick would likely have given the Bills better field position, it would also certainly have taken time, perhaps giving Mahomes only one chance to set up a field goal. or one Hail Mary attempt rather than two.

Unsurprisingly, this fateful decision was the subject of many questions after the final whistle. Check out some of the discussion below:
