‘League Of Legends’ Deactivates Chemtech Drake Following New Critics

Riot Games has removed the Chemtech Drake from League Of Legends, acknowledging significant criticism from professional gamers and the wider community.

In a blog post shared yesterday (January 24), Riot Games admitted that “the addition of Chemtech was too frustrating to play with”, and confirmed that “effective today, we are disabling Chemtech Drake, Soul and Ground”.

“While the Chemtech Drake and its corresponding systems are disabled, we will iterate on design changes to resolve issues with current versions, while maintaining the spirit of what we were originally trying to achieve. Riot Games also thanked the community for expressing their frustration with the Chemtech Drake and concluded the article by admitting that they had “missed the mark” with the Chemtech Drake.

The decision to remove Chemtech Drake was widely praised by fans and pros alike, with LCS caster Clayton “CaptainFlowers” Raines giving “huge props to Riot for listening to the community and disabling something that was almost universally hated.”

Ever since the Chemtech Drake was added during pre-season, League Of Legends fans have criticized the dragon’s effects on gameplay. This includes a terrain effect that fills areas of the map with fog preventing vision, which players say discourages positive gameplay habits such as using beacons to create vision on the map.
