(LANGUAGE NOTE) Another live-action reimagining of a Disney classic, the upcoming remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, struck a sour note with actor Peter Dinklage, who blazed it on a recent episode of the Marc Maron’s WTF podcast.
The Game of Thrones veteran, who is four foot five, said: “Literally I’m not offending anyone, but I was a little surprised [when] they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you still tell the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The project will star West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
“Step back and look at what you’re doing there,” Dinklage said. “That does not make any sense.”
The Cyrano frontman added, “You’re progressive in a way, but you keep doing this fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living together in a cave. What the hell are you doing, man? Did I do nothing to advance the cause from my platform? I guess I’m not strong enough…”
In response, ABC News’ parent company Disney released a statement on the project that read, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes of the original animated film, we’re taking a different approach with these seven characters and consulted with members of the dwarfism community.”
The statement continues, “We look forward to sharing more as the film enters production after an extensive period of development.”
