CAPE TOWN – A lawyer will lead the investigation into allegations of misconduct against suspended Western Cape Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz.
The provincial government’s legal services unit contacted the state’s attorney to request that independent legal counsel be hired to review the case.
With the appointment of lawyer Jennifer Williams, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said he would communicate the outcome of the inquiry when it is finalised.
At the same time, the chairman of the parliamentary committee on employment and labor also weighed in on the scandal.
Lindelwa Dunjwa said the existence of such allegations should cause concern to provincial government authorities and compel them to act decisively.
She also condemned the abuse of a councilor for Amathole District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
Councilor Nanziwe Rulashe was dragged to the ground at East London Borough Headquarters by security guards.
A security official has since been suspended and several arrests have been made.
