Lord Sugar Responds After Being Called ‘Thickest Billionaire’ For Responder Critics

Lord Sugar has shut down a Twitter user who called him the “world’s fattest billionaire”.

The business mogul and The Apprentice star received the post in response to a previous post he had written.

Sugar has complained about the media response to a tweet he wrote about Martin Freeman’s Liverpudlian accent in the new BBC series The Responder.

“Why did the BBC make Martin Freeman speak in a Liverpool accent in The Responder? My wife stopped looking, she said she didn’t understand a word.

He later said, “I’m sure Martin Freeman is great in it. He’s a great actor, but sorry I couldn’t understand him and the others in the cast.

When the media picked up his complaint, Sugar fired back, “It’s fascinating that the starving print media with plummeting circulation has nothing better to write about my genuine commentary on Martin Freeman and the other members of the cast without consistent Liverpool accents. Have no illusions, Martin is a superb actor. One of the best we have. [sic].”

Following this, he was met with a deluge of criticism, with one person writing, “You sir are surely the thickest billionaire in the world!”

In response, Sugar said, “You’re right, I have trouble counting my money, it’s all in pre-decimal currency.”

The 16th series of The Apprentice began earlier this month. A spokesperson for the show has been forced to defend the series after claiming the latest contestant to be faired, Navid Sole, was bullied by another unnamed contestant.

They called the allegations “unsubstantiated”, adding that they “do not reflect the measures put in place to deal with applicants”.

The Apprentice continues tonight (January 27) at 9pm on BBC One.
