Filmmaker and actor Mahesh Manjrekar talks about the lawsuit against his latest Marathi film Nay Varan Bhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha

Filmmaker and actor Mahesh Manjrekar is at a loss for words as he is embroiled in a fuss over his latest Marathi film Nay Varan Bhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha. The lawsuit filed against Manjrekar also named Narendra and Shreyans Hirawat and NH Studioz (the producers). “I have no intention of going ahead, the producers will. I am not in receipt of anything. Let it take its course,” says Manjrekar.

Speaking further about the complaint, Manjrekar adds: “My film is censored by the authorities. And we have a strict board, so if they haven’t found anything wrong… It’s an adult film. It’s dark, so you have to look at it that way. So I am unable to answer your question.

For the uninitiated, the Kshatriya Maratha Seva Sanstha has filed a lawsuit in the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court seeking action against Manjrekar for allegedly portraying women and children in a reprehensible manner in the film. The 63-year-old is unimpressed with the complaint. ” What can we do ? We can only do our job and make films. Everyone has the right to object, so I agree with that,” he said.

While the plaintiff accuses Manjrekar of presenting women in a bad light, the filmmaker clarifies that none of this was intended to excite the public. “I never tried (to sensationalise). I’ve never done that in my whole life. I’ve done over 25 movies, why should I feel the need now. It’s a story I loved years ago. It’s written by a journalist and I thought it should be made into a film,” concludes Manjrekar.
