WATCH: Curt Schilling says conservative opinions are to blame for Baseball HOF’s absence

Former Major League Baseball star pitcher Curt Schilling isn’t surprised he wasn’t selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Schilling, who pitched for the Phillies, Red Sox and Diamondbacks during his 20-year career, told Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade he was snubbed because of his support for conservative causes and the former President Donald Trump.

“[The BBWAA] said so,” Schilling said. “They came out and said it. What’s going on in this country, if you think about it Brian, in a lot of ways I think I was the domino that started it all in cancel culture when I got kicked out of ESPN.

The pitcher explained how he was fired from ESPN in 2015 after posting a tweet comparing Islamic extremists to Nazis.

“[I’m] I’m still trying to figure out which group I offended who votes, the terrorists or the Nazis, but no one has been able to tell me since,” Schilling said. “I’m not happy, but that’s the way it is.”

David Ortiz of the Red Sox was the only player elected to the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA in 2022, with 307 “yes” votes out of 394 ballots, or 77.9%. At least 75% is required to be selected.

This year marked the last time Schilling’s name will appear on BBWAA ballots. Schilling got 58.6% of the vote.

Roger Clemens, who pitched for the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Yankees and Astros, also last appeared. Clemens has won seven Cy Young Awards, more than any other MLB pitcher. Clemens was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs.

Schilling and Clemens still have a shot at being elected to the Hall of Fame when veterans’ committees vote in December for 2023 inductions.
