GMP said in a statement: ‘Detectives have been granted additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who is suspected of rape and assault on a woman.
“Investigations are ongoing and the victim is receiving specialist support.”
The force added: “We remind people to avoid any comments or sharing of images that could compromise the victim’s right to lifelong anonymity, or risk harming a live investigation with an active proceeding.”
Greenwood made his debut for the club in March 2019.
The footballer signed a four-year contract in February 2021 after finding success with the academy.
Manchester United said on Sunday the club “does not tolerate any form of violence” following the allegations.
The club said they were aware of the allegations on social media but would not comment further until the “facts have been established”.
Nike released a statement saying, “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood.
“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
