South Florida Livestock Started Disappearing, 13ft Alligator Blamed, Killed

A Mississippi professional hunter says he killed the culprit responsible for the sudden disappearance of livestock in South Florida’s Okeechobee County: a massive alligator over 13 feet long and weighing 905 pounds.

The Miami Herald reported that calves were missing around an area lake. Doug Borries, the professional hunting guide, took to Facebook on January 20 to post a photo of the “absolute beast” he said he killed on private property.

WXXV25 reported that Borries spotted the alligator, about 80 years old, about 500 yards away “through the scope of his 7mm STW rifle”.

“When the monster closed in about 180 yards, Borries took its hit, pinning it directly into the golf ball-sized kill zone at the top of its head,” the report said.

The newspaper reported that the breeder who owned the property saw the growing reptile – around 80 years old – as a threat to his family. The reptile was used for meat and will be ridden, according to the report.
