Supporters of Spanish giants Real Madrid took to social media in their droves on Thursday evening, to take aim at manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti’s troops, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.

After slipping to a concerning 2-2 stalemate at home to Elche in the club’s most recent outing, Los Blancos tonight turned their attentions towards matters in the cup, in a Copa del Rey quarter-final showdown with Athletic Club.

Real actually got the better of their Basque hosts just two weeks ago, to seal glory in the Spanish Super Cup final.

When all was said and done at San Mames on Thursday, however, Athletic got their revenge.

A tense affair was ultimately decided with just minutes remaining in the 90, when a moment of individual brilliance on the part of Alex Berenguer saw the attacker cut inside onto his left, before picking out the far corner courtesy of a pinpoint bending strike:

Athletic, in turn, march on, but Real Madrid see their Copa journey brought to an end altogether prematurely…

‘This is on Ancelotti’

On the back of the action coming to a close at San Mames, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of the Blancos faithful being up in arms.

Supporters of Carlo Ancelotti’s side have flooded to social media to take aim at a host of the club’s stars, with Marco Asensio and Rodrygo amongst those most heavily targeted.

None, however, has been more widely condemned than boss Carlo Ancelotti, amid the suggestion that the Italian’s stubbornness and refusal to act when his side needed it most ultimately cost Real on Thursday night:

Ancelotti out

This game is all Ancelotti fault . Rodrygo and Asensio are not better than Hazard or Bale to play full game #AthleticRealMadrid

This is all on Ancelotti for being so fucking stubborn

Never felt like we were gonna win this game. Ancelotti needs to wake up and use his subs more. Rodrygo and Modric should’ve been subbed out a long time ago.

I want us to lose La Liga to Sevilla if it means Ancelotti would be sacked and Erik Ten Hag would be appointed.#AncelottiOut
