LSU head football coach Brian Kelly hasn’t spoken much to reporters since being introduced as the Tigers’ new head coach two months ago.
It’s not entirely unusual. College football coaches don’t spend a lot of time with the media this time of year.
Once spring training begins, we’ll see Kelly answer questions a few times a week (probably).
However, that didn’t stop Kelly from being criticized for his lack of media appearances.
Frustration with LSU football head coach Brian Kelly from the media?
Longtime Baton Rouge radio host Charles Hanagriff took to Twitter this week to lament Kelly’s lack of media availability.
“It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Brian Kelly to do a press conference…you know, tell people about his coaching staff or the players he’s signed. Two months and all we’ve seen are dance videos…” read a tweet from Hanagriff.
I understand where Hanagriff is coming from – people in the media want coaches to talk as much as possible. More press conferences equal more content. I understand.
But at the same time, I think it doesn’t matter at all. It may be an inconvenience for the media, but it literally has no impact on whether or not LSU wins games under Kelly.
And I bet most fans don’t care either.
Kelly leans into this job all the way – the videos of him dancing with rookies prove it.
Let the man settle down. Let him find his way to Baton Rouge. He plans to be there for a long time.
The media will know Kelly very well by the time all is said and done.
