Leyton Orient have confirmed that a supporter has been arrested for alleged racist abuse of Colchester striker Corie Andrews during Saturday’s League Two game.

Orient issued a statement after the 1-0 loss to Colchester at Breyer Group Stadium, outlining the action that has been taken since the racist remark was reported.

The statement read: “During the match, the Colchester bench notified the fourth referee to report an alleged racist remark they had heard about a Colchester player who was on their bench.

“The club have formally written to the individual advising him that he is banned from attending Leyton Orient home or away matches pending the conclusion of the police investigation.

“The club will make no further comment at this stage.”

Colchester also released a statement which read: “Following reports of racial abuse targeting Corie Andrews, Colchester United are supporting Leyton Orient and the police as they investigate the incident at Breyer Group Stadium.

“We hope that if anyone is found guilty of racial abuse of any description, they will be punished in the harshest possible way, and Colchester United would like to reiterate that we abhor discrimination in all its forms.

“The club will support Corie Andrews in any way they need after the game at Leyton Orient.”
