A leading sports personality employed at a learning institution in the north of the island has been placed on leave after allegations of sexual misconduct with several students.
Loop News understands that the Ministry of Education has launched an investigation on the matter.
“I think that these things have been happening too often,” a sports official told Loop News Wednesday in the wake of the allegations.
“Too many times we have heard of cases that are swept under the carpet, giving the perception that ‘X’ get away with it so, therefore, I could do it also,” the sports administrator explained.
“So unless punitive action is taken, these things, in my opinion, will continue to happen,” a veteran sports administrator declared, speaking to us on condition of anonymity.
Education officials have described the incident as quite unfortunate. “It is an unfortunate situation where trust of young women again is impacted by an individual who should know better. A father, a family figure, but we hope for the best. But we have dealt with it at our end,” the official said .
Loop News understands messages surfaced between the individual being investigated and students, crossing professional boundaries and engaging in conversations of a sexual nature.
Officials who spoke to Loop News believe that incidents of this nature, once it involves minors, should be investigated by the police.
Some parents have threatened legal action and to press charges.
