Shane Warne’s manager James Erskine says the late cricket legend admitted he was wrong about his criticism of Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc.

The legendary spinner’s life was cut short yesterday at just 52 years of age when he was found unresponsive in his Koh Samui villa in the early hours of Saturday Australian time.

Warne in the aftermath of his playing career had become a well-respected and opinionated expert commentator, with his views at times often causing debate around the cricket world.

Prior to the start of this year’s Test series, Warne was vocal about his opinion for Australian selectors to leave Starc out of the side.

The 145-Test legend had flagged for Jhye Richardson to get a better look.

But according to Erskine, Warne after the Ashes series conceded he was wrong about his criticism of Starc, with the paceman starring for Australia by taking 19 wickets across the five-match series.

“He (Warne) was very opinionated,” Erskine told Fox Cricket. “And you know with Shane, it was black and white.

“In life, most of us know there are 1000 shades of gray in the middle, but it wasn’t for Shane.

“He was very black and white, and that was part of his success. But at the end of the day, he could have an opinion and criticize something.

Legends answer big Warne captaincy question

“I mean, Mitchell Starc right now, he gave you some curry before the last Ashes Test, and that was his opinion.

“So I actually said to him, ‘you were wrong about Mitchell Starc.’

“And he said, ‘well you know what, I probably was, but I probably helped him get better.’

“It’s sort of interesting that that’s the way his mind works.”
