Panaji: After BJP’s Francisco Silveira found himself defeated in St Andre constituency by only 76 votes, he said youth from his constituency settled in the UK were to be blamed for his loss. RG’s Viresh Borkar won the seat. Silveira said that even those who were provided government jobs threatened their parents back home to vote for RG. “They even threatened their parents back home that they will not send money if the family does not vote for RG. After I joined BJP, so much work was in progress in the constituency,” Silveira said. He said nearly 200 youth were provided regular government jobs in his constituency, yet after bagging the jobs they switched over to RG’s side. “Nobody expected this. I never took any opponent lightly. We have worked very hard till the last minute. I have ensured jobs for so many youths. But I feel many of those who got jobs have voted against me. They have stood by RG. Nearly 200 jobs have been given, candidates have already been selected. But these very people were later seen with RG,” he said. He said around 45 to 50 people got jobs as nurses, 100 got jobs in the Goa Medical College and the health department, five were appointed as PSIs. “Some are from my own friend circle. We have done their jobs. They should have kept faith in us. But if they don’t, we cannot do anything. In my own area, there are a lot of ‘Londonkars’, who told their families to vote for RG. That has affected the results,” Silveira said.
