Bengaluru: A 23-year-old woman succumbed to the burns she suffered during a clash with her boyfriend after he allegedly refused to marry her. Police have registered a case of murder and SC&ST atrocity based on a complaint by Tejaswini, elder sister of the deceased. Police said Daneshwari, the younger daughter of a deputy tahsildar in Vijayapura district, had gone to discuss her marriage with her boyfriend Shivakumar Chandrashekar Hirehala, an employee at a supermarket near Electronics City. The incident took place around 8pm on Tuesday. Later, Hirehala rushed Daneshwari with severe burns to a nearby hospital, where she breathed her last around 2.15am on Friday. Broken marriage promise Tejaswini alleged that Daneshwari and Hirehala fell in love while they were doing an engineering undergraduate course at a private college in Vijayapura. They moved to Bengaluru after graduation and were living in the city. Police said Daneshwari was not employed. Hirehala recently informed Daneshwari that he would convince his parents and marry her. But he then told her he would not do so as he belonged to another caste. He abused my sister as she belonged to an SC community. She begged him to marry her and went to the supermarket to talk to him. He refused to marry her and torched her after pouring petrol on her, Tejaswini alleged in her complaint. Police said they are probing to find out whether Hirehala torched the woman or she set herself on fire. Efforts are on to arrest Hirehala, who is at large, said an investigating officer. Hirehala vanished after taking Daneshwari to the hospital. Her body was handed over to her family members after autopsy on Friday.
