DAYTON — Early voting is currently taking place in Ohio, and a political ad coming from the Democratic primary for Ohio Governor is gaining some attention in the Miami Valley.
Former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley is running against former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley on next Tuesday’s ballot, and an ad he is running is facing criticism from some people in his own party.
The ad mentions Dayton, and some people want Cranley to pull it. It started playing on TV last week in the middle of early voting across Ohio.

“Under John Cranley, Cincinnati has made a real comeback. More jobs, higher wages, a city moving forward while under Nan Whaley, Dayton has continued to decline even more than Mike DeWine’s Ohio,” was said during one part of the ad.
News Center 7′s John Bedell went to the Montgomery County Board of Elections Wednesday to get Dayton voters’ take on the ad.
“It’s more than a little insulting,” said Garth Lewis, Kettering resident. “Without seeing any of the data what they were claiming, I have nothing to judge it on. I mean they can say it’s in decline, but there’s a million different ways it can be in decline. Some are relevant, some are not.”
The Democratic mayors of Akron, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown released a statement calling for the Cranley campaign to stop running the ad.
