Bengaluru/Mysuru: Kickboxer Nikhil Sureshs death after a bout has sent cops into a tizzy. While they dont know whom to hold responsible for the sporting tragedy, a blame game has begun. The youths father, Suresh, has blamed coach Vikram MN of Mysuru-based Academy of Martial Arts, where Nikhil had been training for two years, for having accompanied his son to a championship which lacked basic medical facilities. Vikram, meanwhile, has pointed fingers at the shoddy arrangements at Rapid Fitness Gym, venue of the event. Gym owner N Ganesh, however, denied any role in the incident and stated the premises were used by bout organizer and K-1 Boxing representative Naveen Ravishankar. Its a blame game going on. No one knows if this event was recognized by any sporting body, how the fighters were identified and roped in, on what basis were the fights organized and why no emergency care steps were in place, a senior police officer said. In fact, Suresh has also blamed the organizers for the incident. I came to know about the unprofessional attitude of the organizers. I was told there was no proper medical facility in place during the state-level competition. The event was being held on the fourth floor of a building in Bengaluru, and there was no stretcher available. He slammed Vikram for not being present when the bout was on. He claims to be an international coach, but was not there with his fighters (including my son) in the ring. Vikram said: I was with Nikhils family when he was hospitalized. The assistant teachers had accompanied our team to Bengaluru and the incident is said to have occurred around 5.30pm. I was told there was a long delay in shifting him to hospital due to lack of proper medical arrangements by organisers. While Ravishankar has gone off the radar, gym owner Ganesh denied involvement. My gym is on the third floor and aerobics center on the fourth. As we are friends, Naveen had requested me to allow him to use the gym and aerobics space for his event. I was not present at the spot when the incident took place. I came to know about it later that night through a common friend and rushed to the hospital. Ganesh said he has been running the gym and aerobics centers in the same building since 2018. Our business was badly affected during the pandemic. Just when it started picking up, the sudden death of actor Puneeth Rajkumar dealt another blow to our industry due to misconceptions around gyms. And now, this incident has happened. Everyone thinks the event was organized by us, but it is not true. We just gave our space to Naveen, Ganesh said.
