Hagerty responds to criticism of PACT Act vote – Tennessee Lookout

Tennessee Republican Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagery voted no this week in the Senate on a bill that would help the needs of soldiers exposed to burn pits.

The PACT Act or the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act received blowback from 41 Senate Republicans after the bill passed overwhelmingly in the House.

As written, the legislation would have allowed Veterans Affair health care to extend to 3.5 million combat veterans after 9/11.

Senator Hagerty supports the PACT Act and has made providing care for and honoring Americas veterans including the 435,000 veterans that call Tennessee homea priority. His procedural vote earlier this week was to allow for continued debate to improve the bill, and once debate concluded, he looks forward to supporting its passage, as he did in June when the bill previously passed the Senate, a spokesperson for Senator Hagerty said.

Blackburn often places messages on social media about her thoughts on current political moments but she has not mentioned the PACT Act vote on any of her profiles. She has instead recently made comments on Hunter Biden, the recession, the definition of women and immigration.

Ultimately, the bill failed 55 to 42.
