Chelsea investigating possible racist abuse of Son Heung-min during Spurs match

Chelsea are aware of and are investigating a possible instance of racist abuse directed at Tottenham Hotspurs Son Heung-min during Sundays 2-2 draw between the clubs at Stamford Bridge.

The incident occurred when Son went to take a corner in the second half of the match and was met by abuse from supporters in the corner of the Shed End.

Footage that has emerged after the game appears to show a racist gesture aimed at Son.

The Athletic has contacted Tottenham and the Metropolitan Police for comment.

In April 2021, Manchester United suspended three season-ticket holders after Son received online abuse following Spurs 3-1 defeat by the Old Trafford club.

In 2019, a West Ham United supporter was fined for racially abusing Son in a Carabao Cup tie.

Spurs twice came from behind secure a draw in Sundays match. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalized after Kalidou Koulibalys first-half opener, before Harry Kanes late header canceled out Reece Jamess strike and earned the away side a point.

The FA, meanwhile, are investigating comments made by Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel about referee Anthony Taylor’s performance during the match. Tuchel and Spurs coach Antonio Conte have also both been charged by the FA over alleged improper behaviour, after they clashed following the final whistle.

Chelsea travel to Leeds United while Spurs host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the next round of Premier League fixtures.
