DEEP RIVER A 17-year-old was charged Wednesday with posting a vulgar, racist message on a sign in Deep River earlier this summer, according to state police.
The Deep River Resident Trooper charged the teenager with breach of peace and ridicule on account of creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality or race. They were later released into their parents custody and are scheduled to appear at Juvenile Court in Middletown on Sept. 14, state police said in a news release.
Police were called to Devitt Field at the intersection of Main and Southworth streets in Deep River on June 1. The sign board consists of letters that can be easily stuck on the board, and on it, the caller said their original message was altered and there was a vulgar, racist message, according to state police.
A photo of the board sent to Hearst Connecticut Media showed the text on the board had been altered to read in part Trump 2024 above a line with racial epithets.
State police charged the juvenile after a lengthy investigation involving forensic evidence, video footage and witness interviews.
