When Jeremy Lin gave a perfect response to Kenyon Martin’s racist remarks – Basketball Network

Jeremy Lin, Kenyon Martin

Racism has no place in this world, especially in the NBA. Despite this, there are some who still utter mindless remarks. Kenyon Martin made the headlines several years ago for sharing his thoughts on Jeremy Lin’s rasta dreads. Lin, a Harvard graduate, replied in the most savage way, reading Martin in the process.

“Your last name is Lin”

Over the last few years, it’s fashionable to record your thoughts and upload them online. Martin did precisely this and thing Lin’s choice of hairstyle as his target. For some odd reason, Martin accused Lin of trying to be black.

“Do I need to remind this damn boy that his last name is Lin? Like, come on man. Let’s stop this man, with these people. Like, there’s no way possible he would’ve made it on one of our teams with that bull**** going on on his head,” Martin said.

“Come on, man. Somebody really need to tell him, like, ‘All right bro, we get it; you want to be black.’ Like, we get it. But the last name is Lin, all right,” Martin added.

Martin’s thoughts are certainly cringe-worthy. It’s amazing how he managed to spit out his entire rant without realizing how idiotic he sounded. As expected, NBA fans pounced on Martin for senseless comments. The video reached Lin, who then pulled the reverse UNO card to counter Martin.

Kill him with kindness

Martin’s video has since been deleted and so is Lin’s comment. But Reddit has immortalized Lin’s epic reply. Rather than join the bandwagon and slam Martin, Lin lectured the former All-Star.

“Hey man. It’s all good you don’t have to like my hair and definitely entitled to your opinion. Actually I legit grateful you sharin’ it [to be honest]. At the end of the day, I appreciate that i have dreads and you have Chinese tattoos [because] it’s a sign of respect. And I think as miniorities, the more we appreciate each others’ cultures, the more we influence mainstream society,” Lin wrote.

In other words, Lin just instructed Martin to look at himself in the mirror, particularly his arms which have Chinese tattoos all over them. The two quickly patched things up after the incident.

Martin cleared the air, noting that his comments weren’t aimed to be racial. He was just joking around the way teammates do in the locker room. Lin, for his part, shared how deeply apologetic Martin was. He also pleaded his fellow Asians not to act or say racist things against Martin. He also followed it up with an Instagram post that summarized the entire ordeal and what he wanted to come out of it.

“If African Americans are able to be passionate about issues that aren’t just related to African Americans, I think we’ll see something big start to happen. I think we’ll be able to influence mainstream society and that’s the ultimate goal. All this pitting me against him – or whatever that creates division I don’t stand for,” Lin wrote.

So there you have it. Lin proves that you don’t have to fight fire with fire. He also demonstrates that you should not mess with a Harvard graduate with a kind heart.
