Bus driver pays

I note in the article about the shortage of Hamilton school bus drivers that they are paid $19.50 an hour. Surely, given the importance and responsibility of this job, their pay could at least match that of a Hamilton garbage man at an average of $21 an hour.

Fans are tired

A head coach who doesn’t understand the advantage of taking the wind in the fourth quarter, who gambles on third down on his own 27yard-line in the third quarter of a close game, and an offensive co-ordinator who appears to not know the advantages of rolling out athletic quarterbacks; and the solution to these issues is simple. At the end of the season fire all coaches responsible for this offensive offence. Fans are tired of being out-coached!

Cats need help

Last winter the Ticats decided to sever their contract with Speedy B. Monday, Speedy B (alone) outscored the Ticats.

The Ticats brain trust is in need of help.

I have been teaching in Ontario’s secondary classrooms since 1970. It’s important to note that despite the Ford government’s distracting, inaccurate rhetoric, there was never a chance that teachers would not be in the classroom in September as they are not yet in a legal strike position . Teachers and others in education wish to work with the government to find the best possible contract for students, parents, staff and taxpayers.

Most educators have training on how to work co-operatively with others and even teach these strategies in the classroom as well as modeling them every day in their workplace.

There should not be “sides.” There should be one team working for the best possible education experience for each student.

No school would turn away anyone in government who wishes to sit in on classes, not just for a photo op, but to understand what working with many young people all day is really all about. Talks for moving forward could then be based on the reality within the classroom. It would be time well spent.

Blame the left

Regarding “Violent rhetoric threatens democracy” (Sept 3): This author has his heroes and villains mixed up. He seems to think authoritarianism and political violence only come from the right wing, but no one thinks of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot or Castro as right wing.

The most serious recent political violence in America happened only two years ago when the Marxist group Black Lives Matter plunged the country into violent upheaval, its leaders saying, “If the US doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it.” The left applauded.

Our popular culture, public education and social media are now dominated by woke progressives chanting “diversity” while never missing a chance to trample on the reputations of historical figures or claim offense at a different viewpoint. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Joe Biden intentionally slander up to half their country’s population.

All this comes at terrible cost to our freedoms and social cohesion, but the left seems willing to pay this cost.

Blame the Liberals

The knuckle-dragger out west gets all the attention for swearing and intimidating Chrystia Freeland. No argument there.

But nothing yet on Laith Marouf, co-founder of Community Media Advocacy Center (CMAC), who received hundreds of thousands of government dollars to combat racism, while at the same time spewing hateful words and even death threats toward Jews. The Liberal party claims innocence, which is hard to believe given a simple google search by their legion of “diversity” bureaucrats at Heritage Canada would have easily exposed this particular “rage machine.” That’s either inexcusable incompetence or systemic racism. The lack of media attention to this issue is disturbing.

Candidate coverage

Regarding “It’s a Barton Street alleyway garden …” (Sept. 3): Can readers look forward to a similarly flattering two-print-page gardening opinion piece about every candidate in Ward 3, including the incumbent, who happens to be the only woman (indeed, person) of color on the existing council? I would invite the editor to consider how this piece upholds the paper’s published journalistic standards with respect to fairness and impartiality, at a minimum.
