BEREA, Ohio — Two of the most unlikely players on the Cleveland Browns roster shouldered the blame in the 31-30 loss to the Jets last Sunday.
Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb and Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper combined for all four of the Browns touchdowns against the Jets, but said mistakes they made were in part to blame for the loss.
Chubb rushed 17 times for 87 yards (5.1 avg.), including three touchdowns. In addition, he caught three passes for 26 yards. Cooper had nine receptions for 101 yards (11.2 avg.), including a touchdown.
Chubb scored a touchdown from 12-yards out with 1:55 left to play in the game with the Browns leading 24-17 at the time. His touchdown put the Browns up 30-17, but the extra point was wide right.
“Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have scored right there honestly, looking back at it,” Chubb said. “It cost us the game. A lot of things went wrong, not just one thing but collectively as a unit and as a team, we could have all done things different. It is only a problem because we didn’t win so I probably should have gone down.”

It’s hard to think anyone in the stadium watching would have thought that Chubb should not have scored at that point.
Chubb did admit that it would have been tough to stop near the goal line after running all out the first ten yards.
“It would have been tough,” he said. “I think the first-down marker was at the 1 or 2 and the goal line was right there, too. I probably could have gotten down. It probably would have been third-and-short or third-and-inches, but it possibly could have happened. I couldn’t have gone out of bounds because people were behind me and they would have pushed me in or something like that. I probably should have just dropped down after I made the cut.”
