The Batman introduces the Gotham Renewal Project, a plan meant to revitalize Gotham City, and this could be the perfect way for Robert Pattinson’s Batman to address the character’s eternal criticism. The Gotham Renewal Corporation was mentioned several times throughout The Batman, but the implementation and effect of the project’s intended investments were never really shown. However, by bringing the Gotham Renewal Project back in The Batman 2, Robert Pattinson’s Batman can be taken in an entirely new direction, fixing an issue that has plagued the franchise since its inception.

SCREENING VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the world of The Batman, the Gotham Renewal Corporation was started by Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne, who intended to make a better Gotham before his untimely demise. However, after Thomas’s death, the corporation’s Renewal Fund became infested with the corruption of Gotham City. The likes of the Maroni and Falcone organized crime families used the fund to launder money, make scraps, and finance their operations. The Gotham Renewal Fund was used by these criminals and their corrupt politicians for years — until the Riddler exposed everything. Now, in the aftermath of The Batman, Gotham is flooded, hundreds of citizens are displaced, and crime is running rampant, and the revitalization of the Gotham Renewal Project may be the way to fix it.

Batman has long been criticized for attempting to help Gotham by beating up poor criminals rather than using his immense wealth to fix the problems. Bruce has always been able to use his money to invest in solutions to Gotham’s systemic issues, whether that be through funding rehabilitation programs, creating low-income housing, starting job programs at Wayne Enterprises, or any of the various other routes the billionaire can take . Instead, he chooses to put on a bat costume and beat up poverty-stricken criminals. The Batman’s ending shows that Gotham is in a state of disarray, leaving the door open for The Batman 2 to finally fix this problem. In the sequel, Bruce should take over the Gotham Renewal Program and use it to solve Gotham’s issues, which would take the character in a direction that hasn’t been done before. By using the Wayne fortune to fix Gotham systemically, The Batman 2 can finally correct Batman’s long-standing problem.

How Gotham Will Be Different In The Batman 2

Gotham is set to be an entirely different place in The Batman 2, with the ending of Robert Pattinson’s first movie as the Dark Knight leaving the city in a state of disarray. The biggest issue is the flooding caused by the Riddler’s plan, which has destroyed sections of Gotham, leaving many citizens without jobs or homes. This aspect of Gotham is what the Gotham Renewal Project should focus on investing in, as it carries over the themes and the lesson Bruce Wayne learns in The Batman. With Carmine Falcone dead, a massive power vacuum has undoubtedly opened in the world of Gotham’s organized crime. This leaves the door open for several possibilities, such as the Penguin’s operation growing or the introduction of a new crime family. After the Riddler’s executions of corrupt politicians, there are several big seats up for grabs, potentially changing the power dynamic in Gotham’s government as well.

The events of The Batman have caused a lot of chaos in Gotham City, and focusing on Bruce Wayne using his money to correct all these big changes would be an interesting route for The Batman 2’s story to take. With the first movie focusing so much on corruption, The Batman 2 seems primed to use the Wayne family’s wealth to help Gotham’s citizens in need. While it is corrupt in The Batman, The Batman 2 could now use the Gotham Renewal Project to fix the biggest criticism of Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting activities.
