When things go awry, why do they blame the weatherman? Who is they, you ask? Im talking about songwriters. According to Lyrics.com the word weatherman comes up 1,089 times in the library of songs.

What You Need To Know Music artists have been composing popular songs about the weatherman for decades More times than not, weather forecasters’ words inspire feelings of melancholy Many songs about meteorologists have made it to the top of the billboard charts

Songwriters have done it for years. They write songs about how the weather affects their emotion. Songwriters also leave the weather forecaster on the hot seat for being the source of their pain.

After all, the weatherman might be responsible for pop artist Eddie Benjamins sadness.

In his April 2022 song, Weatherman, he belts out, Go tell the weatherman I said I want it sunny outside today and Go tell the weatherman I said all the pain from last years rain is gone.

Eddie puts high demands on his weatherman, but he also shows a bit of gratitude for his forecaster, as the last line of the song is I send good thanks for the things that he’s done.

Mega music star Bob Dylan sang, You dont need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, in his 1965 release of Subterranean Homesick Blues. According to Rolling Stone, its one of the top 500 songs of all time.

And its not only here in America where the weatherman gets a bad rap. That sentiment resonates across the Atlantic Ocean.

The 1990s Irish band B*Witched made it to the top of the UK Singles Chart with a song called Blame it on the Weatherman. The song was also a big hit in Scotland, Ireland and the Eurochart with good standing on other worldwide music billboards.

Blame it on the Weatherman was certified silver in the UK with 200,000 sales units.

When life doesnt go as planned, artists compose lyrics symbolically: Its just one more day, no one said there would be rain again, oh blame it on myself / Yeah, Ill blame it on the weatherman. In all actuality, the problem they sing about may not be about the weather at all, but a symbolic way to express emotions in a relationship.

Come to find out, not every song about weather presentations had a negative connotation. For example, here is a parody I stumbled upon from back in the day where a Beatles song Taxman was revamped to reflect Weatherman to celebrate West Virginia’s former beloved WBOY meteorologist Meteorologist Mike Simons.

These are only a few examples of popular music that focus their messaging on weather talent. Take notice sometime and you may hear lyrics aimed at the person who works diligently at trying to help you to stay ahead of inclement weather.
