Sunak faces mounting criticism over Cop27 no-show

RISHI SUNAK is facing mounting criticism over his decision not to attend the Cop27 climate summit in Egypt next month as Boris Johnson declared he would attend.

Mr Johnson announced his intention after the new PMsaid that he had other pressing domestic commitments despite a UNwarning that global warming is reaching irreversible levels.

Green MP Caroline Lucas said that although she suspected Mr Johnsons involved announcing a great deal of self-promotion, it was probably about the first decision that he has made that I might support.

Ms Lucas said: If were really saying that in the sixth richest country in the world that our Prime Minister cant be bothered to get there because hes busy, what about all of those prime ministers in countries that are absolutely on the front edge of the climate emergency right now?

Scotlands First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says she will attend the summit. The SNP has joined criticism of the PMs no-show at COP27, accusing him on Sunday of showing a complete failure of leadership and rolling back on the governments climate pledges.
