PORT Glasgow Juniors have hit back at allegations made by an Irvine Vics player that he was racially abused during his team’s win at Parklea on Saturday.
Christopher Jackson accused Port Glasgow players and supporters of using discriminatory language towards him in the Ayrshire team’s 3-1 victory.
The Undertakers released a statement saying they will co-operate with any potential investigation but refuted the allegations.
The club said: “Port Glasgow Junior Football Club are aware of the allegations made against the club of alleged racist incidents taking place in our match yesterday at home to Irvine Victoria.
“Port Glasgow Junior Football Club take any allegation of racist behavior extremely seriously, the club do not condone any form of racist behaviour.
“The club welcome and will fully support any investigation into these alleged incidents, however, we will robustly defend our player and fans as we believe these allegations to be false and without foundation.
“The club will make no further comment on this until these allegations have been fully investigated.”
The midfielder claimed he experienced racial abuse during Vics’ game against Lanark United the week before.
Jackson said: “I’ve played football a long time but the amount of racial abuse from fans and players today was shocking and an embarrassment for a club.
“I’m not going to mention who they are but that’s two weeks in a row and at the level we play at is not on. Mon the Vics.”
Irvine Vics said in a statement: “We stand behind Chris and strongly condemn any forms of racism and all forms of discrimination.
“After two weeks of racism allegations and incidents that have no place in football.”
