The federal government has opened an investigation into allegations of fraud in the National Social Investment Program, NSIP.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, made the announcement during a press conference in Abuja.

The minister, who was represented by the permanent secretary, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, said the ministry had strengthened its systems extensively to eradicate all irregularities and prevent similar situations in the future.

When we learned that some payment service provider staff involved in beneficiary payment processes may have engaged in malicious practices, the matter was immediately referred to the ICPC for further investigation. We are aware that some people have therefore been asked to be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigations.

To this end, we are working closely with 1CPC to support the successful determination of the investigation.

The minister further noted that in an effort to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of N-Power and other national social investment programs, the ministry has over time involved other agencies parastatals, security agencies and civil society organizations in monitoring and compliance checks across the country’s 36 states and the FCT.

We want to assure all Federal Government N-POWER recipients of continued commitment to the program and subsequent exit/onboarding channels enabled.

All beneficiaries of the program must therefore continue to apply as much as possible to their Main Places of Assignment. All monthly stipends will continue to be paid in accordance with program expectations.

The minister therefore called on citizens to come forward on any irregularity observed in the implementation of the national social investment programme.
