Throughout the season, Jon Robinson and the Tennessee Titans have had to listen to outside voices expressing their opinions on the Titans’ lackadaisical situation at receiver and why AJ Brown’s gaping hole is causing the this lack of production.
Those cries were, of course, justified, as the Titans struggled all year to find consistent success from their unimpressive receiving squad.
Well, apart from rookie Treylon Burks.
As a result of those struggles, the offense has suffered a decline in scouting ability this season. Prolonged scoring droughts, a lack of quality across the board, inept leadership from the offensive coaching staff, it’s been nothing short of a disastrous year of offensive football for the Titans in 2022.
The thought of fixing these issues is a headache, as all of them require big moves to be fixed for good, which the Titans just aren’t equipped to do at this point.
But one of those issues could have been alleviated with a move made this past offseason, a move that Titans general manager, more specifically Jon Robinson, never made and is paying him right now.
AJ Brown had more receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns than all of the Titans’ wide receivers combined in his Week 13 rematch:

This decision simply boiled down to paying Brown the money he wanted during quiet but intense contract negotiations. The movie is well known at this point, with the Titans trading disgruntled Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for a first-round pick and some changes.
This decision was criticized at the time and continues to be so today. Not just because the Titans can’t find any kind of respite with their talent deprived group of receivers, but also because Brown is lighting it up in his new home, while letting his game save the money he was finally paid. by the Eagles.
Luckily for the Titans, those two issues didn’t arise this season, as Jon Robinson’s Titans found ways to win despite their issues and Brown’s Eagles rode through the year, rolling the NFC in the process.
But the silent proxy war between the two situations ended today in Philadelphia, as the Eagles hosted the Titans, along with a battle of stories between Browns’ departure and the effects he had and always has on this Titans team.
The #titans issues go beyond the lack of consistency and talent in WR.
But they miss dude AJ Brown and they miss him terribly.

The Titans would have preferred to win the aforementioned battle of words and assumptions, as well as the game itself. But they did neither, in fact they never came close to achieving a single one of those goals as they were completely burned out by the Eagles 35-10.
Brown was at the forefront of the Eagles’ efforts, making eight catches for 119 yards and two big touchdowns. In a nutshell, the Titans simply didn’t have an answer for him, as he stormed through the Tennessee high school without much resistance.
There wasn’t much rebuttal from the Titans side either, as Brown’s total yardage total was just 38 yards short of the Titans’ receiving yardage total as an entire team.
Even with an ongoing receiver talent crisis in Tennessee, it’s a feat that isn’t easy to pull off. But Brown was able to do it, which only goes to show how talented and established he is in one of the most complicated leagues in the whole world.
He’s a player the Titans could use right now, even with the many problems that exist in this offense.
Looking for a Jon Robinson?
Would his addition suddenly rejuvenate this offense and make it one of the best in the league? Of course not, because as mentioned earlier, this offense has issues that go beyond the extent of receiving talent being sterile.
But the Browns’ reliability, experience and proven talent would make offensive injuries less serious than they are.
It’s not a definitive solution for this massive obstacle that stands in the way of the Titans. But it’s a short-term remedy that would have helped this team move forward, as they try to fit more pieces into a roster that’s more flawed than set in stone.
Jon Robinson mentioned that Brown’s departure was due to the difficulty of making an extension, so at that point they “had to” trade him and recoup whatever value they might receive.
But based on this season and Brown’s revenge game today, it seems that this decision, which has already received much criticism and vigor, will continue to be mentioned as one of the changes in most negative franchise in the modern history of this organization. .
And for a team that has enough problems as it stands, these types of consequences should be avoided at all costs.
Not just now, but also in the future.
