Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s rep responds to criticism of their Netflix docuseries

[ad_1]

With the release of Harry & Meghan on Netflix, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have come under fire for their decision to do a docuseries about their lives, after leaving the high-profile Royal Family. The show documents the couple’s relationship and their decision to move to the United States. However, this criticism of them leaving for privacy and doing a show about their lives was clarified by one of the couple’s reps, saying that when Meghan Markel and Prince Harry took a step back from their royal duties, they did not cite privacy as a reason for leaving.

The statement was released to ET by the Duke and Duchess’ global press secretary, she said:

The Duke and Duchess have never cited privacy as a reason to step back. This distorted account was intended to trap the couple in silence. In fact, their statement announcing their decision to step back mentions nothing of privacy and reiterates their desire to continue their public roles and duties. Any suggestion otherwise speaks to a key point of this series.

That’s right, privacy wasn’t mentioned in the couple’s official statement announcing their departure which was posted on Sussex Royal’s Instagram in 2020. He talked about how the couple would be moving away from their roles of senior members of the royal family, and they explained that their son was one of the main reasons for taking this step back. They also wrote about dividing their time between the US and UK, writing:

This geographical balance will allow us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charity.

The Global Press Secretary continued with his statement, saying the couple “chose to share their story, on their own terms” and that “the tabloids” have provoked “an entirely false narrative”.

This docuseries has garnered a lot of attention, similar to the attention Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey received last year.

Trailers for Harry & Meghan, as well as early episodes, use old footage, like a controversial interview with Princess Diana, to show viewers how harshly they have been treated by the media. Alongside their decision to step away from the Royal Family and highlight how the press has treated them, some of Harry and Meghan’s other big takeaways revolve around how the couple met, how impact Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, had on him, and the couple’s relationship with other members of the Royal Family.

The first volume of Harry & Meghan is available to stream with a Netflix subscription now, while the second part is on the 2022 television schedule and will be released on December 15.
