Paddy Pimblett is aware of the criticism following his unanimous decision victory over Jared Gordon and he responded.
Pimblett and Gordon shared the Octagon inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight went the distance and Pimblett earned scores of 29-28 from all three Octagon side judges. The general consensus is that the judges got it wrong. Of the 24 members of the media who sent their total scores to MMADecisions.com, only one had Pimblett winning the fight.
Paddy Pimblett fires back
Speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, Pimblett fired back at those who say he was gifted a decision win.
“I don’t think it was close,” Pimblett said. “I don’t understand why everyone thinks it was close. I won the first two laps easily, then the third lap I sort of coasted because my ankle was very sagging. My ankle, I think I need to do something to that ankle. It’s not okay. So, as soon as it was the third round, he pushed me against the cage. I had no urgency to get rid of it. He suffered no damage. It was me who landed the strikes. I think he landed a meaningful strike in the third round.
Pimblett then revealed whether or not the backlash from the decision bothered him.
“I’m pretty pissed off, to be honest, boy, that people think I lost,” Pimblett admitted. “It annoys me, it annoys me a lot.”
UFC President Dana White shared with reporters at the UFC 282 post-fight press conference that he thought Gordon had a “terrible game plan.” He thinks Gordon went around the third round thinking he had the secret fight.
Either way, Pimblett’s pro MMA record improves to 20-3. He is riding a six-fight winning streak and is 4-0 under the UFC banner. This is Pimblett’s first time going the distance in his UFC run.
