Monday’s 113-93 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers marks the second straight for the Boston Celtics. The game was lousy pretty much from the jump. Boston fell behind early, leveled off in the second quarter, then crumbled before halftime. After blowing themselves up on national television two days prior, the Celtics didn’t get the star performance they needed.
Jayson Tatum was “average,” as the kids say. Granted, he had 20 points and 11 rebounds, but he wasn’t very efficient. The 24-year-old has made just seven of his 20 field attempts and two of his eight 3-point attempts. Not exactly the type of numbers you’re looking for from an MVP candidate. It also wasn’t exactly the best way to follow what might have been his worst performance of the season against the Golden State Warriors. In Saturday’s loss, Tatum had just 18 points, made just six of 21 attempts from the field and two of nine from deep.
The guy has been phenomenal this season. Tatum averaged 30 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while shooting just under 47% from the field and 35% from downtown. Combine those numbers with Boston’s best NBA record 21-7, and you’ve got yourself an MVP candidate. So if the guy has one or two offsides, what are you going to do? Right?
Boston Celtics champ rings in on Tatum
Wrong, if you ask Boston Celtics champion Kendrick Perkins.
Big Perk chimed in on Monday’s edition of NBA Today on ESPN, saying:
“You know what? It’s one thing to have a bad night on set; everyone goes through it. But not having the mind to come here and be purely dominant without Andrew Wiggins being on From Jayson Tatum talking about how miserable his offseason was because of how he fared in the Finals until he went to a postgame interview and said that game was more meaningful to the fans and the media than it was to him, it made my skin crawl… The narrative is always going to be, until he plays Golden State again this season, c is that no matter what else he does, they’re going to be like, ‘oh you’re not going against Golden State,’ and you want to get rid of that monkey, and I was just expecting more from him, from every aspect of the game, and he didn’t deliver.
Perk’s rant came before the embarrassing loss to the Clippers, but he was sure to chime in after that was settled, tweeting,
First these light-skinned brothers from Golden State kicked Brown and Tatum’s ass, now Kawhi and PG got them on their knees and spanked them with a designer belt! God bless America.

Tatum and the Boston Celtics will have a chance to avenge the last two losses on Tuesday when they visit the Los Angeles Lakers.
