Enugu youths banish man for witchcraft and rape allegation

Mr. Festus Ntuga from Ama village, Ugbene-Ajima community was caught raping a girl of around eight years old on Saturday night.

An eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous told IN NIGERIA that “on that fateful night around 9 p.m., there was a church crusade going on in our village square. Almost all the villagers were in the crusade arena. Festus Ntuga snuck into a compound, thinking only the little girl was in the house. As he jumped on the girl, she started screaming and this caught the attention of her mother who was inside the inner room. Immediately the mother saw what was happening, she herself screamed, and Festus ran away with the daughter’s handset.

Recounting further, the villager told our reporter that “the next morning, the mother reported the ugly incident to the youths of the community. Immediately, these young people went to Mr. Festus’ house, retrieved the handset and dragged him to the village square and began to attack him. Before dragging him out of his house, they forced him to pick up all his charms, put them in a bucket and carry them to the village where he gave the beatings of his life.

Our source also revealed that the suspect has reportedly started confessing to his past bad deeds in the community.

“As the angry youths began beating him, he begged them not to kill him so he could confess his wrongdoings. He confessed that he was responsible for the death of his pregnant wife who died a few months. He also told them that he was responsible for the death of his older brother who he was currently staying with. He also confessed to having been responsible for the death of his own son. With all these confessions, the young people did not no choice but to banish him to the community.

When asked if he had been accused of any evil acts prior to the unfortunate incident, our source explained that “prior to this incident, Festus was known to steal economic fruits such as palm fruits, coconut and many other economical fruits. But, he has never given this kind of humiliation before. For now, he can no longer return to the community.

However, when contacted by telephone, the Public Relations Officer of PPRO Enugu Police, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe was unable to return his call for confirmation of the incident.
