London Mayor Sadiq Khan claimed he was prevented from reading sexist texts from Metropolitan Police officers at a meeting, adding that he was ‘censored’ from reading such messages.
Khan claimed he was not allowed to read horrific messages of racism and sexism from London assembly officers on Tuesday (13), My London reported.
The mayor was attempting to read out texts from the Operation Hotton report to sexist and racist cops during a hearing at the London assembly. This was part of the London Assembly Police Committee’s inquiry into the ousting of Dame Cressida Dick.
Recently, Khan was ‘summoned’ for his ousting of former Met Police chief Dame Cressida.
During the hearing he was trying to justify his pressure on the former chief constable by revealing evidence from the IOPC Fund report to officers at Charing Cross police station, the report added.
“I had this big argument with my girlfriend because she found out that I had been on the p*ss with this girl who is a high class prostitute a few weeks ago. Hahaha.” He quoted another officer who replied, “Make friends with high class prostitutes.” Another replied: “I had one [a sex worker] at Watford I was fucking her all the time,” Khan reportedly said. However, the committee’s Conservative chair, Susan Hall AM, interrupted the mayor. Hall then mentioned Sir Tom Winsor’s critical inquiry into how Dame Dick left office. At the meeting, Khan sat next to Sir Tom, whose report in August accused him of breaking the rules to sack the then Met chief.
The exchange as reported by My London.
President Susan Hall: “We all accept what was in that WhatsApp correspondence. Mayor Sadiq Khan: “You missed the point. Hall: “We all agree that was wrong. Hall: “You don’t have to read them all, we accept them all.” Mayor: “You can’t censor this, it’s important. It’s scandalous. I try to be fair. Hall: “What’s outrageous about that?” We try to bring it back to what’s in the [Winsor] report.”
Dame Cressida resigned as Met Commissioner in February this year, reportedly following an ultimatum from Khan. However, Sir Tom’s report said ‘due process was not followed’ in the eviction.
Khan denied the findings and claimed the report, commissioned by then Home Secretary Priti Patel, was politically motivated.
He said the mayor’s treatment of Dame Cressida amounted to “constructive dismissal” if she had been an official employee. The mayor
After the meeting, Sir Tom said: “I was really quite surprised at how negative the briefing was, and how amateurish and shoddy it was.”
He claimed Khan had pressed the Met Police commissioner to act “unlawfully” in sacking racist and sexist officers revealed in the Operation Hotton report.
According to the mayor, Dame Cressida’s successor, Sir Mark Rowley, dismissed the officers under the rules on misconduct in public service.
It is reported that Khan received a letter from the IOPC Fund’s police watchdog highlighting instances of racism and sexism in the force.
