Thiruvananthapuram: Police report in case filed against former Minister Saji Cheriyan’s remarks on Indian Constitution is out. He says Cheriyan did not insult the Constitution but criticized it.

The report was submitted to the First Class Magistrate of Thiruvalla.

Cheriyan only intended to criticize that the Constitution drafted on the advice of the British led to the exploitation of the working class, he pointed out.

Unsurprisingly, the report called for the case against him to be dropped.

The report was prepared after interviewing witnesses and relevant persons. He points out that criticizing the Constitution is different from acting against the Constitution.

Cheriyan, when he was minister of fisheries, culture and youth, addressed a meeting and said that India’s constitution ‘tolerates exploitation’ and is written in a way that helps to “plunder” the population of the country.

He later resigned as the comments drew criticism.

Recently, the Kerala High Court had rejected a plea seeking the removal of Saji as an MP. All of this will open up the possibility of his return to the firm as the CPM has not filled his vacancy. However, the party’s state secretary, MV Govindan, hinted there would be no rush.
