Will Mellor has spoken out about the controversy surrounding his reaction to being criticized during the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final, saying, “I’m just human.”

The actor and his dance partner Nancy Xu were eliminated in the semi-finals of the BBC One show after a double performance that included a Paso Doble and a 90s-themed couple’s choice routine.

However, Mellor’s reaction to the judges’ harsh criticism of his Paso Doble split viewers, with some saying he looked angry at the judges’ comments, while others thought he was just disappointed in himself.

Asked by host Claudia Winkleman how he felt after the criticism, he said, “It sucks. I worked hard and let (Xu) down. I don’t fish for compliments, she taught me well and i left.too aggressive she told me to be calm and i forgot some fundamentals.

“I tried, but it’s hard, isn’t it, the semi-finals. We are all in the same boat, however, I should have done better.”

Some viewers said they felt “uncomfortable” watching his reaction, but Mellor appeared Monday on Strictly: It Takes Two after being rejected and explained more about what happened.

He said: “I’m just human, anyone who meets me can meet me, I don’t have another person I can put.

“I was disappointed, I had worked so hard and we had come so far in the competition, the last thing I wanted to do was make a mistake that night.

“From what the judges said, I fought back, and I looked back and I was too hard on myself. I always said what matters to me the most is is to make sure that lady next to me (Xu) is happy, if she’s happy, I’m happy.”
