Campaign staffers for Georgia Republican Senate hopeful Herschel Walker weigh in on their reactions to their candidate’s recent loss to Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.).
According to The Daily Beast’s Roger Sollenberger, one thing that seems to have been a concern for several staffers is the dysfunction of the campaign behind closed doors and the relatively negative impact of Walker’s current wife.
While it’s no secret that Walker, who was backed by former President Donald Trump, was at the center of multiple scandals, staffers insist his wife was instrumental in crippling his campaign.
“This account of Walker as a lying, delusional, confused and misleading candidate, willing to believe what sounded good and reject badis, is based on interviews with five campaign staff and people close to the candidate. “, wrote Sollenberger.
“Staff members painted a portrait of a man who was personally charming, a sympathetic and generous southerner who always inquired about the welfare of his staff, but who often sought and accepted advice from those less experienced in the piece: namely, his “redpilled” wife Julie Blanchard, as two staff members put it, and his friend and sometimes agent Michele Beagle,” he added.
Another staff member also offered a stark assessment of the situation. This staffer argued: ‘Pardon my French, but fk Julie and fk Michele Beagle’, Sollenberger also noting that the staffer compared ‘Blanchard to ‘Lady Macbeth’ and Beagle’s amoeba role as campaign chairman to a ‘minister without portfolio.'”
Another campaign aide weighed in, saying: ‘The best spouses know how to calm the candidate down, but Julie was more like an accelerator of Walker’s worst instincts.’
According to the news outlet’s report, “staff and advisers said Blanchard and Beagle posed an ongoing challenge throughout the campaign: a group of experienced political operatives battling an unclear and unreliable candidate away from distractions and unnecessary influences.
A member of staff also expressed regret, saying: ‘We held on as best we could, with tape and bandages.’
Another aide also noted, “If we were going to do this again, it probably would have made sense to do the Kemp rally.”
