How Mitchell Starc coped with constant criticism from Shane Warnes

Australia had spent six years unsuccessfully searching for a replacement spinner and Warne never shut down suggestions of a return.

He is [Warne] had its day, Starc said in 2012. He obviously did a lot of great things for Australian cricket, but he’s done and dusted now, and Nathan Lyons the spinner.

From that moment, Warne did not let go of Starc.

It’s part of evolution, learning to let things go, Starc said Thursday. The disappointing part or the sad part is that we never got to have that conversation. I guess I never know. It’s part of cricket, you’re going to have your critics and everyone has the right to have an opinion. I’m just going to continue my cricket.

Starc could be a really grumpy fast thrower on and off the field when he started out, but he’s mellowed over the years to the point that he now prefers a smile to a sledge.

I was someone who listened and read everything. And then that year, several broadcasters started [2018]everyone comes with the radio and whatever, that’s where the noise really doubled and it really got away from me,” Starc said.

This is where I learned best to let things go and only take care of the bands that mattered most to me. It was a point where it changed a bit, where I chose not to read things and it continued where it didn’t matter.
