Man Utd and TeamViewer end sponsorship of 235 million shirts after tech company blames lucrative deal for falling share price

MANCHESTER UNITED and shirt sponsor TeamViewer have ended their £235m deal after less than two years.

In March 2021, the Red Devils agreed a lucrative tie up with the software company in a partnership that was to last five years.

But now they have parted ways after the German tech company accused Man Utd of a drop in their share price.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, a statement read: “Manchester United will have the option of buying out the sponsorship rights to the front of the club’s shirt.

“United will take the opportunity to launch a targeted sales process for a new shirtfront partner.”

TeamViewer’s share price has lost four-fifths of its value since the deal was announced – the shares are now trading at 9.11 from 31.65.

The software company revealed that other factors negatively impacted investments, including the war in Ukraine and the effects of the pandemic.

But the share price rose 5% in August after TeamViewer announced it would not renew its deal with United.

A company statement from four months ago read: “International brand awareness has clearly increased over the past year thanks to the partnership (with United).

“Nevertheless, the company has decided to review its long-term marketing strategy in light of the current macro-economic environment.”

The Athletic have reported that investors in TeamViewer have accused the Man Utd partnership of “bleeding millions” and showing “appalling judgment”.

And the end of their relationship with the English giants comes amid a host of changes at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo saw his contract terminated last month following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Just hours after that decision, the Glazers’ longtime owners confirmed they were ready to sell if the price was right.
