Spokesperson calls for scrapping Muskrat Falls project

[ad_1]

Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of the Muskrat Falls sanction. Ten years and we’re still spending money with little in return. A reviewer says it’s time to start thinking about ‘surrender’.

$13.5 billion and more. The problem is getting electricity from Labrador to the Avalon Peninsula through the Labrador-Island link. No one can say for sure when or even if the problems will be corrected and power will flow freely. The LIL software is not working and the Soldiers Pond synchronous capacitors, essential to the stability of the network, have not worked.

Muskrat was supposed to replace the oil-fired hydro plant, but that hasn’t happened yet. Now Hydro will build more backup capacity at Bay d’Espoir.

Blogger Uncle Gnarly (Des Sullivan) says Prime Minister Dwight Ball should have canceled Muskrat outright when he came to power in 2016. Failing that, on this 10th anniversary of the sanction, he says let’s make the decision now to abandon the project before hundreds of millions and perhaps billions more are wasted.
