NCPCR Summons BYJU CEO Over Allegation of Malpractice

Child rights apex body NCPCR has sued the CEO of edtech BYJU over allegations he engages in malfeasance to get parents and children to buy their courses.

According to a media report, BYJU is facing a series of complaints on social media platforms and consumer websites with customers alleging they have been exploited and deceived as they had to put their savings and future at risk. .

The National Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights, seized of the case, has summoned BYJU CEO Byju Raveendran to appear before it next week.

“The Commission is aware that engaging in abusive practices to induce parents or children to enter into loan agreements and then to cause exploitation is contrary to the welfare of children and under the duties and powers provided under Sections 13 and 14 of the CPCR Act 2005,” the NCPCR said.

The Commission asked the company to appear in person before it with the details of all the courses provided by BYJU’S for children, the structure of these courses and the details of the fees, the number of students currently enrolled in each course , BYJU’S refund policy.

He also requested the legal documents regarding the recognition of BYJU as a valid ed-tech company and all other relevant documents regarding the claims made in the aforementioned report at 2 p.m. on December 23 to explain the discrepancies with said case. . .
